Anatomy For Life 2013

08/07/2013 - 14/07/2013

AFL was held during the UK National Transplant Week in July 2013. The charity anatomy art exhibition ran along with several exciting events about organ donation.

Over 200 pieces of artwork submitted

from artists in over 10 countries.

Charity Anatomy Art Exhibition
It is thanks to all the kind support and contributions from artists all over the world that has made this charity art exhibition possible. Through their artwork, the wonders of the human body can be told through an array of colours, shapes and textures, to remind each one of us the important anatomy we all contain but have taken for granted for so many years of health.

We hope that the artwork donated from so many different places around the world can highlight the importance of organ donation to everyone, regardless of boarders, ethnicity, age and race.

Body painting

Traditionally, students doctors are taught the location of the body organs through drawing organs on each other in the "anatomically correct" position. We decided to turned this into something a bit more colorful and fun for AFL. Thanks to our volunteer artists (Julia) and models, we had body painting at the Jubilee library throughout the Anatomy For Life event. This generated a lot of interest from the public, and was intriguing for adults as well as children. We made all body painting as "anatomically correct" as possible to demonstrate where organs are positioned in the body.

Organs live!

On Saturday 13th July 2013, we held a Live Body-Painting session with local musicians performing live in the Jubilee Square in Brighton. This generated a lot of public interest and we were able to reach out to many individuals about organ donation.

Organs on film

This unique event showcased a series of new and innovative award-winning films from the NHSBT ‘Organ Donation Through a Lens’ competition. We also showcased a short film by filmmaker and journalist Barbara Myers, on a very moving and inspirational story of Connor Saunder who donated his organs and saved many lives. We were very honored to be joined by the Connor family to discuss the topic of organ donation.
